Shaking Hands with the Unemployed
Bassist Ed Ivey and drummer Dave Black contributed their considerable talents to this project, and for that I'm forever grateful. Great players, great people.
This CD was recorded in San Francisco by an old friend named Chris Schardt. Thanks Chris. I once played in Chris's band, Moe's Kitchen, and a fine band it was. He's now written an IPhone app, check it out.
We recorded six of my songs, one of which was not deemed worthy but will no doubt be fixed up in time for our next elpee, "Fiesta Chicken". The five surviving originals are yours for the taking over on the right there. No, over a little....down...right there! In stunning VBR MP3 format. Enjoy.
Other cuts on the album: two from Albert Collins, "A Good Fool (Is Hard to Find) and the instrumental "Don't Lose Your Cool," B.B. King's arrangement of "Woke Up This Morning," "Walking the Dog" by Rufus Thomas (our arrangement is purloined from Luther Johnson's version of it as heard on the Atlantic Blues: Chicago album, which I highly recommend - order it here), and finally a run through Junior Wells' "Cut That Out".
The front cover design was done by Jillian Suzanne, at no small expense I might add. The picture of Uncle Sam was taken at the Musée Mécanique in SF.You can order a copy of this CD, or inquire about bookings, by emailing me.
